Bat Trang pottery is the general name for Vietnamese pottery produced in Bat Trang village, Bat Trang commune, Gia Lam district, Hanoi. According to Sino-Vietnamese, the word Bat (鉢) is the monk's bowl (Sanskrit is Patra), the word Trang is also read as Truong) meaning "large yard", a piece of land reserved for expertise. Thus, the name Bat Trang can be understood as "a large yard specializing in producing bowls".
