A very disappointing experience. The food was just not right. The broccoli was literally just blanched with soy sauce. The Xiao Long Bao had an oily aftertaste with mushy skin, and the wonton noodles felt more like instant noodles than the real thing. My biggest disappointment was the shrimp dumplings (Har Gow). The skin was falling apart and the shrimp was "powdery," which usually means they’ve been frozen for too long. Total letdown. Also, the Bak Kut Teh tasted okay, but it’s definitely not the traditional version you'd expect. The only saving grace was the Roast Duck. It had a nice Cantonese flavor and was actually decent. The staff were proactive, but it was very hard to communicate in English or Chinese. Overall, this doesn't feel like an authentic Cantonese restaurant. I might come back only for the duck, but everything else is just not worth it.
We dined here earlier this evening with our baby, and unfortunately the experience was negatively impacted by how their mistake was handled. The restaurant uses a paper order sheet where customers tick items. I clearly marked one pork rib porridge for my child and informed the waitress at our table that this item should be sent first. After finishing the rest of the order, I personally brought the order sheet to the counter and tried to emphasize the porridge again, even using gestures due to the language barrier. Despite this, two porridges were sent out. When I pointed out that I had only ordered one, the staff member at the counter immediately insisted that I was wrong and refused to listen or verify the order sheet. He stated that once food leaves the kitchen, it cannot be taken back, and placed full responsibility on me without checking. It was later discovered that the restaurant had made two errors: the porridge order was booked twice, and the first porridge sent was pork liver porridge, not the pork rib porridge that was clearly marked on the order sheet. The extra porridge was eventually taken back, but there was no apology or acknowledgment of the mistake. What was most disappointing was not the error itself, but the attitude and handling of the situation. The staff member was defensive, dismissive, and escalated the situation instead of listening, clarifying, or de-escalating. When I asked to speak to a manager, no manager was called. They took the porridge back, as if they were doing me a favor, when it was their mistake on many levels in the first place. We did not mind the financial aspect at all, but the negative interaction created tension and discomfort that lingered throughout the meal, especially while dining with a baby. A simple check of the order sheet and a willingness to listen would have resolved this quickly. I hope management can address customer service training, as situations like this are easy to handle well, but very unpleasant when handled poorly.
